The election of 1936 a dominant victory

Franklin D. Roosevelt - NARA - 196715.jpg

The United States election of 1936 was the 38 presidential election held on Tuesday, November 3, 1936. In terms of the popular vote it was the second biggest victory for the winner since election of 1820 which means it was not contested.

The election took place at the great depression and it’s eighth year and presidential Roosevelt was still working on his provisions of the new deal to push America through this economic depression. There was nothing Roosevelt feared more than to see this power get into the wrong hands at the wrong time and see the country that he love so much and has worked so hard for to fail. The new deal policies he had already enacted such as Social Security and unemployment benefits had proven to be highly popular with most Americans resulting in why he got so many votes from the American people.

Roosevelt won every state except Maine or Vermont which together but only return eight electoral votes by winning 523 electoral votes Roosevelt received 98.49% of the electoral vote total and never again would a democrat break at least 500 electoral votes in a presidential election. This was the last election until 1964 and with the Democrats won Indiana Kansas Nebraska North Dakota and South Dakota and also Colorado in Iowa.

We can see from this total landslide but the people were behind Roosevelt as he continued to try to improve the lives of many Americans going to the hard times of the great depression.

  1. Honestly with all the talk about the presidency and how its relevant every second and end up in a conversation of a battle between Hilary or Trump, its interesting to compare this and see what the heck happened. Also its extremely interesting just looking at the voting pools that in 1936 the electoral vote was 98.5% democratic. Good Work!
