The Twenty years war
The extremist group originating out of Afghanistan in the 1990's, commonly known as Al-Qaeda is well known throughout America. Society knows them to be just another terrorist group in the middle east, however, Al Queda and the US have a much larger significance than just that. Unlike other terrorist groups, Al Queda has been in a twenty years war with America, a war that originally started in 1996 when Osama Bin Ladin officially declared war against the US in his "Declaration of war gainst the Americans Occupying the land of the two holly places." Obviously at that time little was known about Al-Queda or their leader Osama Bin Ladin, so his statement was tken very lighty if at all. After serving in the Afghan army against the Soviets, Bin Ladin began a more significant approach against the US, after celebrating recent attacks on US soldiers. The most well-known attack of Al-Queda or specifically Osama Bin Ladin was 9/11 when his supporters drove multiple planes into the world trade center in New York. This attack is what made the twenty-year war between Al-Queda and the US really begin, after the attack President Bush launched an invasion into Afghanistan to find and kill Osama. The Twenty-year war can be categorized into five parts, the first, second, third, fourth and fifth phase.

  1. Great Post. I liked how you discussed topic that is unknown to many Americans. Many Americans did not pay attention to the fact that Al-Qaeda had been plotting to attack the United States for some time. I thought that one thing you could have done was expand more on why Bin Laden declared war on the United States. You could have talked about American Imperialism in the Middle East and its role in enraging Islamic Fundamentalists. Overall though good post.
