Election Bush V Gore

This was a historical election that will be remembered forever as nothing like it had ever happened in federal politics before. The Republican representative was George Bush who was the son of the past president George Sr. The democrat representative was Al gore. The shocking part of this election would come with screw up in vote counting leading to it being a case in the Supreme Court. It was the fourth out 5 elections where the candidate with the popular vote lost which shows how much our vote doesn't matter but thats a matter for another blog post. On election day, Gore won the popular vote by over half a million votes. Bush carried most states in the South, the rural Midwest, and the Rocky Mountain region, while Gore won most states in the Northeast, the upper Midwest, and the Pacific Coast. But the outcome of the election would ultimately go to Florida which carried 25 electoral votes to decide the election.

On election day there were huge disputes of the ballots and vote counting because some of the things were fully punched through or messed up. they were known as hanging chads and are infamous in this election. The Florida Supreme Court extended the deadline for the recount and ordered a manual recount. Then Bush appealed the decision, and the US Supreme Court agreed to hear the case. In a very important case to decide the presidency the US. Supreme Court voted 5-4 in favor of George Bush who wins the presidency.

The 2000 presidential election was the closest in the history of the US Electoral College and the first ever to be decided by the US Supreme Court.
