Funniest Court Cases

I know that many of us are currently swamped with AP tests, so I though it might be nice to find some of the most absurd cases ever brought to court. And here are some of the best I have found

#1 Pineapple Assault
In England, a Glaswegian police officer Tracy Ormsby tried to sue for 1.5million pounds because of a pineapple related injury. She was apparently hit with a pineapple at a protest for a pool closure. The incident was apparently so traumatic that she quit her job and for 3 years was a "mentally scared recluse". When visiting a hospital a doctor declared her to have post- traumatic stress disorder after she screamed "Ker-ching, I'm in the money" and the court gave her $3000.

#2 Rain Rain Go Away
This was a funny one. Apparently an Israeli woman sued a television weatherman $1000 for incorrectly predicting the weather, and saying it would be a sunny day. She had apparently been caught in the rain, gotten the flu, missed work for a week and then had to purchase medications. After  the whole ordeal she sued for $1000 and oddly enough the court ruled in her favor and she won.

#3 The Hug
Jennifer Connell was attending her 8year old nephew Tarala's birthday when her nephew who was super ecstatic to see his "auntie Jen" jumped into her arms causing her to fall down and break her wrist. The Aunt Jennifer then sued her nephew for $127,000, claiming her injuries were caused by her nephews "negligence and carelessness", saying that the birthday boy "should have known that a forceful greeting such as the one delivered by the defendant to the plaintiff could cause the harms and losses suffered by the plaintiff." While Connell had originally tried using health insurance, when they denied her and left her to deal with a six figure check, Connell resorted to suing her nephew.

#4 The Killer Killer Whale
Daniel Duke had one life dream, to swim with a whale, and in 1999 he hid himself from the security guards at Sea World. After the park was closed, Duke went into the Killer Whale tank and tragically died. However Duke's parents then proceeded to file a multi-million dollar law suit against sea-world for "failure to display public warning signs that the whale can actually kill people". Excuse me, as if the danger was not already implied by the name "Killer Whale". However the family dropped the case quietly and without naming a reason.

#5 Work is Boring
And my personal favorite is the story of 44year old Parisian worker Frederic Desnard who filed a $400,000 law suit against his former boss for his job being too boring. Desnard filed his suit against Interparfums, a perfume and cosmetic company where he had a high profile job that paid $90,000 a year. In December of 2015 the court eventually ruled against Desnard as the court thought it was filed in a sense of personal animosity and was not plausible without any real proof.

  1. Leah, this was a wonderful post and very funny. I especially liked the Pineapple Assault and The Hug. People using lawsuits as to try and get money from people for no logical reason has always baffled me but not as much as when the courts actually rule in favor of the person suing for such a ridiculous reason. If you are looking for more court cases to laugh at this link has a few, https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/7-most-ridiculous-lawsuits-nike-3238861, my personal favorite is the lady suing over spilling hot coffee on herself. Thanks for such a great post!

  2. Leah this was so cute way to de-stress everyone. I would 100% take a pineapple to the head for 3,000 dollars! Who wouldn't! :). I did some more research into this because why not!"A 27-year old man from New York sued Subway after he took a bite of his sandwich and found a knife in its bread. He sued Subway for $1,000,000 because of food poisoning, which he said he had gotten from the filthy plastic handle of the knife."
