Storytelling in American history

Storytelling has always had a strong place in American society. From the first settlers in Jamestown, to the creation of Hollywood, and beyond, storytelling had acted as one of the greatest ways Americans have passed the time. I believe that this is due mostly because of the late colonization of the country in comparison to other countries. Since the Americas were one of the last "new worlds" human civilization had already reached an advanced level, at least compared to say, when a country like Germany was founded. Even past the founding of the country, you had storytelling during the gold rush of the 1800's, which can be considered a cause of Hollywood creation.
